The Rotary Club of White Rock in partnership with Peace Arch News are pleased to announce the restart of their Short Essay Writing Contest for Grade 11 Students of the schools located in White Rock-South Surrey vicinity.

The Rotary Club of White Rock in partnership with Peace Arch News are pleased to announce the restart of their Short Essay Writing Contest for Grade 11 Students of the schools located in White Rock-South Surrey vicinity. 
 
The following schools have agreed to participate in the contest. 
 
Semiahmoo Higher Secondary School  (Contact: Kelly Burwash

South Surrey White Rock Learning Centre  (Contact: Kama Money
 
The White Rock Christian Academy  (Contact::Anthony Bigornia) and  the Southridge School (Contact::Brad Smith) have expressed their inability to participate this year. 
 
The essay topics would be based on current news articles appearing in the Peace Arch News.  (e-Editions of the Peace Arch News are available on the website at http://www.peacearchnews.com/eeditions/)
 
Students would  write opinion pieces in the form of short essays between 400 to 600 words each. Students are encouraged in their submissions to consider opposing sides to their opinions  
 
The choice of topic to be presented will be approved in advance by the English Department/Administration at the entrant's school. 
 
Deadline for submission of entries is 30 June 2021. Each school should submit their entries to the Peace Arch News attention of Editor Brenda Anderson in an envelope with the school name and Rotary Club Writing Contest printed clearly on the envelope. Entries will be judged by a panel of judges representing the Rotary Club, PAN and a third party..The judges are:

Independant : TBD
 
 
There will be First ($1000), Second ($500) and Third ($300) Prizes. The school of the winning essays will also receive a prize in support of their English Department.
 
Upto ten top-ranked submissions will be published in the Peace Arch News print and digital editions and the winners list will be published in PAN as well. Other deserving submissions may be published in the e-edition of PAN.
